UiTM Sarawak Drives Sustainable Community Tourism in Pakoh Through Digital Marketing and AI Innovation
The Iban longhouse community of Rumah Anthony, Sungai Lingah in Pakoh now has a home on the web — an invitation for travellers, students, and friends near and far to discover a way of life that most maps overlook.

For generations, life at Sungai Lingah has moved to the rhythm of the river and the forest. Reaching the longhouse still means a journey by 4WD along the Tanah Merah route and a longboat upstream — and that remoteness is part of its magic. But it has also meant that few people ever get to experience the community’s hospitality, its traditions, and the quiet beauty of Pakoh.
This website changes that. It is a place to learn the community’s story, explore the tours on offer, and reach out directly to plan a visit.
Sustainable community tourism with UiTM Sarawak
The project grew out of a collaboration with UiTM Sarawak, whose students and staff worked alongside the community to promote sustainable community-based tourism in Pakoh. Through digital marketing and the thoughtful use of AI tools, the initiative helps the community share its heritage on its own terms — keeping the benefits of tourism local, and the storytelling authentic.
Students who took part in the programme experienced the Iban Miring ceremony, the warmth of the ruai, and the natural beauty of Wong Senyaruk first-hand — and helped carry those stories to a wider audience.
